Biography of Bernard Fries
After graduation, I went into the U.S. Navy from July 1961 to July 1965. During this period I married my wife Karen Donaldson from Monroeville on August 3, 1963.
The years that followed from 1964 to 1969 brought us 4 children: Sheri, Penny, Jeffrey and Joel. When I got out of the Navy, we bought a house in Monroeville. In March 1973 we moved into a new house, also in Monreoville where we lived until June 1999. We then bought a condo in Huron, Ohio where we presently live.
When I got out of the Navy, I started working for The Mack Iron Works Company, a steel fabricating company in Sandusky. I started out in the drafting department and worked my way up to the estimating department. I'll be there 45 years this July.
Our kids have blessed us with seven grandchildren. We spent a lot of time going to softball games, track meets, swim meets, grandparents days and christmas programs. Over the years, Karen and I have gone on numerous trips to Las Vegas for vacation. In 2008, we went on a two week trip to Alaska, a combination of a land tour and a cruise, for our 45th wedding anniversary. In March 2010 we took our second cruise to the Carribean for ten days.
