Biography of Dennis Lau

After graduation I worked at Urological Instruments in the Polishing/Plating Section. I lasted there until December 1960 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. I started out my career in the Navy going to Hospital Corpsman School where I thought I was to be some sort of Mechanic for medical equipment. I then jumped out of that profession when they told me I was going to be a MEDIC in the USMC. I ended up chipping paint and driving the small boats for liberty parties. I then thought I should make up my mind what I wanted to be when I grew up (a mechanic). However the ships personnel office had different thoughts. Remember those grueling days trying to learn how to type?

I spent 26-1/2 years trying to find out what I would like to do when I grew up. 6 ships and 3 shore establishments during that time proved fruitless.

Oh, and by the way I did my one year obligatory tour in country Vietnam(1966-1967) you guessed it, driving boats. Read the Vietnam War record of Lt. jg John Forbes Kerry (an urban legend in his own mind) My tour there was 180 degrees out from his so you can read between the lines.

And yes, I did have the pleasure of being spit on by the war demonstrators when I returned. That year was the highlight of my career.

I have two daughters, one is a nurse and the other an office administrator.

First wife is deceased. Married Gloria (the friend I brought to the 25th reunion.

Retired 1987 and took a year off. Ended up In Scottsdale, AZ and went back to a real career enhanced job as a clerk interviewing applicants for the military at the Phoenix Military Entrance Processing station. Over the next 20 years I finally retired from there as the Information Technology Specialist (glorified PC/network repairman.

I moved to Cadwell, GA May 2008 and now enjoy chasing wild pigs and turkeys on my 20 acres of hilly country, dirt roads and all. I also now fly RC airplanes, had to give up my classic collection of Mustang cars as I got older quite quickly.
